Radio Gadgets Have Been Used In Certain Less Developed Nations Despots Have Used Radios To Subdue Restless Citizens And Suppress Dissent (No, Really!).
Unwilling to challenge the radio gadgets magic box, would-be troublemakers kept their heads down, not wishing to challenge the wizard who could work so great a magic. In that spirit, I have provided three of the most radio related magical gadgets I could find. The first device is satellite radio, which is perfect for people on the road frequently such as salesmen, over-the-road drivers and lobbyists, as well as for those who can’t stand the idiotic, inane and puerile chatter that stands for talk radio these days and which has begun to infiltrate normal “music-based programming” to such an extent that you can go over half an hour without hearing a single blasted song and when you do reach a song it’s the same blasted song you’ve heard 40-odd times before. It may surprise you that I myself own a satellite radio. They’ve got hundreds of stations in dozens of genres! Another great radio gadget is a two-way walkie-talkie. Walkie-talkies always reminded me of cell phones. Short-range limited use poor sound quality cell phones. But they just seem so much cooler! As soon as you jump on a walkie-talkie, suddenly it’s ‘copy this’ and ‘roger that’. (Although, truth be told you need to be careful when telling an Englishman to ‘roger that’. You may get more than you bargained on.) I could certainly never ask for somebody’s “twenty” on a cell phone. It simply wouldn’t seem right. But the best of the radio gadgets I can think of is a radio-controlled car. Not only are they fun to drive but you can always pretend you’re Kurt Russell in Death Proof if you need to add a little star power. Even without the role playing, radio controlled cars are always fun to race and even more fun to do stunts with. Ever seen a small-scale vehicle get launched from a three-foot jump, hurdle a bed of burning coals and land balanced over a kiddie pool on a boogie board? Neither have I, but I’ve seen quite a few cars perish valiantly making the attempt! As you can see, radio controlled gadgets can be fun, diverting and even educational if you include racetrack-construction and car retrieval as educational activities. Between satellite radios, walkie-talkies and radio controlled cars you’ll have enough fun to fill a magic box of your own!
