The Best Latest Cool Gadgets Are Ones That Solve Our Problems In An inexplicably Cool Way, Like These.

In today's world it may be hard to find the latest cool gadgets we want.

On one hand we're bombarded with things that leave us asking "Why did I pay for that?" like a tuna fish can strainer.

At the same time the things we really would like are no where to be found, like something to attach to any coffee or teapot to prevent it from dripping when you pour.

Add to all that how common and truly spectacular modern technology is, from movies on your iPod to surfing the web on your palm, and we can all find it hard to come up with the latest cool gadget.

Even the idea of a cool gadget seems self limiting to electronic toys recently reviewed on techie websites.

Words spring to mind like "cutting edge", "new and improved", or "innovative", but what are we really looking for behind those terms.

Can we be happy with a simple product that makes our life drastically easier, or does the coolness lie in how many buttons, colored lights, or plugs the gizmo can have?

If you do ever go in search of such a toy the internet can kill hours in your search.

Half of the sites promoting gadgets are too pricey for most consumers.

Many things of esoteric use, small but elite clients, and general awesomeness without purpose find their way into the web.

In particular, sites targeting the wealthy business traveler has everything from mist liquid vitamins in carry-on approved bottles, to paper soap.

Those latest cool gadgets that are affordable require wading through many of those "Why?" products before finding the real gems.

The problem solving ones are in there, from spill proofing your life to keeping you safe.

Yet somehow, most of the entertainment in the search is in finding those quirky things you think no sane person should pay for.

I have to say I prefer a shake-to-power flashlight over a USB powered hamster wheel, but once you find that hamster you're off on a dedicated search, delving for hours at what could possibly be more insane than that.

What would I really like to see within my price range?

First, a small irrigation system on a timer that I can use for my houseplants when I go on vacation instead of bothering the neighbors.

Remote charging of electronic devices would be welcome too. Lower on the list would be a rotator for plants and flower arrangements.

On one hand that would allow a 360 view, on the other I'd stop having a "C" shaped tree because I forgot to turn it away from the window.

The best gadgets are ones that solve our problems in an inexplicably cool way.

These need not be electronic but have the same "wow" factor when in operation as early scientists had with the first computer.

The hamster just doesn't wow me.

The Jetsons' house might not wow me either once I'd lived in it for a while.

The challenge for inventors and manufacturers then is to continue to impress us in an ever more impressive lifestyle.
